Odoo implementation readiness: align processes before modules
Prepare ownership, data and acceptance tests before starting an ERP rollout.
ERP planning should begin with the work that breaks between teams. Before selecting modules or customisations, document where information changes hands and who is accountable for it. This guide is a planning checklist, not a claim that a particular edition includes every feature.
Choose one measurable process
Start with a concrete flow such as enquiry to order or receipt to dispatch. Identify current delays, duplicate entry and reconciliation problems. Agree on what a successful first phase will improve and who can approve that result.
Prepare clean master data
Review product names, units, contacts and location records before importing them. Duplicate or ambiguous records become harder to resolve once daily transactions depend on them. Assign a data owner and test a small import before moving the complete dataset.
Validate fit before customisation
Walk through the target workflow with the implementation team. Record gaps separately from preferences. Confirm edition, hosting, integrations and ongoing support implications before accepting custom development. A familiar-looking screen is less important than a dependable process.
Use scenario-based acceptance
Test ordinary work, corrections and exceptions with the people responsible for operations. Include permission checks and a recovery plan. Train users in the sequence they will follow during a real working day, then schedule a supervised transition.
Should every department launch at once?
Not automatically. A phased rollout can reduce coordination risk when dependencies are understood. Choose the sequence around operational continuity and data ownership rather than a desire to enable every module.
